Carbon Capture for Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) Power

Working in parallel with TDA Research, GTI Energy’s research team is designing and fabricating pilot-scale gas cleanup and CO2 capture subsystems to demonstrate pre-combustion carbon capture for integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plants. This DOE RD&D initiative will significantly improve power plant efficiency and economic production of power from coal.

The novel, low-cost, high-capacity mesoporous carbon sorbent removes CO2 from high-sulfur-containing flue gas produced by coal-fired and other fossil power plants. To date, GTI Energy has tested the post-combustion sorbent system integrated with the furnace/flue gas cleanup system for about 850 hours and results indicate a CO2 capture efficiency of > 95%. GTI Energy has also tested performance on a natural gas exhaust mixture with high CO2 capture efficiency.
