GTI has worked with Cummins Westport Inc. (CWI) and other partners—including the California Energy Commission, SoCal Gas, and UTD—on development and field testing to bring industry-leading, ultra low NOx emission, natural gas vehicle engines to market. GTI has partnered with CWI to support all three of their current engines.
Designed to be the lowest emission engines available today, the B6.7N, L9N, and ISX12N 2018 natural gas engines are certified to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (ARB) Optional Low NOx standards. These new medium and heavy-duty engines continue the evolution of ultra-low emission on-highway natural gas engines, and set new standards for performance and reliability. GTI is involved in a final-stage demonstration of the B6.7N engine.
Ultra low NOx engines fueled by natural gas offer a low-cost pathway to zero emissions. Natural gas trucks and buses offer route flexibility and don’t require in-route refueling, unlike electric vehicles that may need to recharge during a route. On-highway natural gas trucks have over 500 mile range capability, and can use existing fueling infrastructure. CWI engines are available from leading truck and bus manufacturers.
