Gas Distribution Engineering Overview
Course Overview:
Gas Distribution Engineering has played an essential role in the training of thousands of distribution engineers for 70 years. There are two comprehensive courses, focusing on Piping & Material Design and System Planning. You can register for both weeks (at a discounted fee), or you may register for only one of the weeks. (If you are taking this course as part of the Registered Gas Distribution Professional, or RGDP, certificate program, you must complete both weeks, although not necessarily in the same year.)
In Piping and Material Design, you'll get an understanding of the properties and design of piping systems—steel and plastic pipe (and cast iron, where appropriate)—and explore incident investigation, leakage control, repair/replace decisions, corrosion and cathodic protection, route selection criteria, and more.
In System Planning, you'll learn measurement principles; meter fundamentals; pressure regulation principles; overpressure protection; gas supply planning; gas control operations; system design principles and considerations; load estimating; gas flow principles and equations; system modeling; and enhancing pressure by redirecting flow.
Both courses feature activities that show you how to use the new information you're learning to solve real-life work problems. Instructional methods include presentations, along with interactive discussions and group exercises. A final exam will be administered on the last day for both courses. To earn 28 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) and 2.8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for each course, you must achieve 80% or higher on the final exam.
Target Audience:
- Engineers who want to bridge the gap between formal schooling and gas industry technology.
- Those with specialized experience who want to broaden and update their knowledge of gas distribution engineering.
