Evaluating Small-Scale Power Generation for On-Site Resilience
GTI Energy, in collaboration with the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP), is assessing distributed power generation and heat recovery technologies to enhance resilience and reduce energy use at DOD facilities. The project at Naval Station Great Lakes and Maine Army National Guard is evaluating a fuel-fired micro combined heat and power system for economic and resilience benefits. Results from this 2023 demonstration will inform mCHP deployment strategies across military sites by 2027.
ESTCP program involvement is expanding in 2025 to include demonstrations to prove diverse technologies including underground pipe locating technologies, cascading CO2 heat pumps, and non-invasive envelope retrofits. Together, these efforts reflect GTI Energy’s ongoing role in supporting DOD with real-world data and insights to guide energy investment decisions and accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies that improve resilience, efficiency, and system performance.
