Designing, Building, and Demonstrating a Long-Range Fuel Cell Utility Vehicle for DOD

GTI partnered with the University of Texas Center for Electro-mechanics to design, build, and demonstrate two state-of-the-art utility vehicles with a novel on-board hydrogen storage system and process power system to significantly extend the operating range and improve performance compared to a state-of-the-art electric utility vehicle. The vehicles, powered by a 8.5kW fuel cells and ultra-capacitors and equipped with 3.7 kg of high pressure hydrogen storage, demonstrated up to a 300-mile range on a single fill of hydrogen during a 12-month demonstration for the Department of Defense at the Robins Air Force Base in in Georgia in 2011.
