Creating an Integrated Energy Systems Laboratory for RD&D to Enable Connected Energy Systems

In 2019, GTI established a dedicated residential-scale Integrated Energy Systems (IES) lab to develop behind-the-meter technology solutions to minimize lifecycle costs of greenhouse gas emission reductions, as well as ensure system resilience. The lab enables GTI to perform system-level whole-building and microgrid component research integrating electric, renewable, and gaseous fuels along with energy storage and other energy efficiency technologies.

Combining this new IES lab with GTI’s VTH method offers a configurable plug-and-play evaluation platform that can be used for novel design and development approaches to advanced controls to enable connected energy systems in addition to research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) on specific components within a broad fuel spectrum.
