Distribution & Transmission Competent Engineer Education & Assessment Program

For almost 80 years GTI has been providing the natural gas industry with timely and highly valued education and training programs.

In 1996, GTI enhanced its educational training program with the addition of the Registered Gas Distribution Professional (RGDP) and Certified Gas Transmission Professional (CGTP) certification programs. Now to meet the ever changing and elevated needs of the industry, GTI has developed the Distribution & Transmission Competent Engineer Education & Assessment Program. This in-depth, assessment-based learning offering was created to cover skills and experience for effectively designing natural gas systems, and to develop a foundational understanding of natural gas systems. It covers the identified AGA recommended competencies for natural gas utility engineers, as well as the competencies identified in the NGA Gas Engineering Design Review Guideline.

The Competent Engineer Education & Assessment Program addresses nine competency areas:

We can bring the entire four-week educational training and assessment program to your location or a nearby site. Additionally, if you would like to utilize the Assessment and Evaluation without first taking the four-week Program, that can be provided.

This program will enhance the students’ foundational understanding of natural gas systems and the natural gas industry, including an overview of federal and state regulations in the areas of system design, delivery, operations and maintenance. Technical knowledge acumen is built through applying these areas of foundational understanding to system-specific areas of expertise.

Students will also develop and understand operator-specific requirements that address each unique pipeline system and the processes each company uses to operate and maintain them.

On the final day of the four-week course, the engineers knowledge is tested in a rigorous four-hour exam. The exam results are scored, and each student is provided with an Assessment and Gap Analysis of opportunities for future learning based on their individual test results.
