Future Plans

This pilot plant moves the technology from the lab to the field, and important data on the potential challenges of operating the technology on a larger scale will be generated.

STEP Demo pilot project will facilitate commercialization

Developing and maturing the technology at pilot scale will facilitate its commercialization and spur the development of necessary designs, materials, components, operation and control systems, sensors, and understanding and characterization needed for larger-scale sCO2 power conversion systems. The facility can be used for on-site user training and provide operations experience.

An ongoing testbed for future development

After specific project objectives are met, STEP Demo will remain a testbed for future sCO2-cycle-based power development. The plant design is flexible and can be reconfigured to accommodate future testing to continue technology optimization.

Regional benefits

The test center is expected to attract further substantial future investment and will continue to create jobs and economic benefits to the San Antonio region.

Become a project partner

This open project is welcoming new partners from around the world. OEMs, engineering companies, and power plant owner/operators are invited to join to gain a better understanding of how sCO2 technology can improve high-efficiency power generation.
