Please mark your calendars and plan to join us as we officially break ground at the Supercritical Transformational Electric Power (STEP) facility on Monday, October 15, 2018.

On behalf of Gas Technology Institute (GTI), Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), and GE Global Research (GE), you are cordially invited to attend the groundbreaking of the STEP demonstration plant on the afternoon of October 15, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas.

Under this $119 million Department of Energy public/private partnership, GTI, SwRI and GE will design, build, and operate a facility to be located at the SwRI campus in San Antonio to develop technologies that will supply the next generation of higher efficiency, lower cost electric power. This first-of-a-kind 10 MWe (megawatt electric) pilot power plant will advance the supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) Brayton power cycle and assess its performance over a range of operating conditions. This initiative will integrate and prove compact, modular technologies that can be applied to generate clean, low-cost power from natural gas, coal, next-generation nuclear, solar, and industrial waste heat recovery.

On this occasion, we would like to share with you and our other honored quests an overview of this exciting facility and project that will improve the efficiency of power plants, advance U.S. technological leadership, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This open project is welcoming new partners from around the world. OEMs, engineering companies, and power plant owner/operators are invited to join to gain a better understanding of how sCO2 technology can improve high-efficiency power generation.
